A Delicious Discovery

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend and if you were in the Bay Area were able to stay dry yesterday. Despite living in often cloudy San Francisco, I love the sun so when June started off with rain it came as an unwelcome surprise. Luckily, when I got off work I took a slightly different route than usual and stumbled upon on something pretty amazing…

Creme brulee is one of my all-time favorite desserts so I was so excited to see this little cart on the street. To be honest, I didn’t plan on partaking. I just went over to check it out. Well, then I started reading the flavors and decided that what kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t investigate further. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it.

Faced with so many delicious options I had a very difficult time deciding. I love a classic creme brulee (though I had my all time favorite in Paris years ago, so it might be difficult to compete), lavender sounded interesting, but let’s fact it- I was drawn to the chocolate options. I loved the different add-ons the S’mores included but when it came down to it, I had to go with the Yes, Please! Any dessert that immediately tells me that it is indeed as good as it sounds is a winner in my book.

The verdict?

It really was as good as it sounds. They torch the top right after you order so it’s hot and sizzling and has that perfect crunch. There is nothing worse in creme brulee then a top that’s not crunchy, that’s the best part! The flavor was sweet and nutty without being overpowering and there were chunks of strawberries in the little ramekin. It also was the perfect, satisfying size. My only complaint was that only the top was warm and the rest of the custard was cold. I understand this is because they need to keep them fresh on the street, but I wished it would have been a little more room-temperature. (I also feel this way about cupcakes- when they come out of a refrigerated case the cake feels dry and the frosting dense.)

All in all, I will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled out the Creme Brulee Cart in the future. If you are in the Bay Area and want to try some delicious creme brulee too, follow them on twitter to see where the cart is parked!

  4. Gah, that sounds FANTASTIC! I didn’t even know that there was such a thing as different creme brulee flavors! I’ve only had one kind (the plain, I guess?) a handful of times with Will, and it was amazing!

  5. I’m so glad you chose the “good blogger route;” creme brulee is far too wonderful to pass up! I completely agree that it’s one of the best desserts EVER. The contrast between the crunchy topping (and yes, it must be crunchy!) and creamy custard is irresistible. Add in Nutella and strawberries, and I think I’d go to heaven. When I visit San Francisco this coming fall, can we pleeease go on a creme brulee truck date? The other place I want to check out is Humphry Slocombe! Have you been? The ice cream flavors sounds creative and downright incredible.

  6. Omg my brother and I saw this on the food network and totally wanted to go there. I loooooove creme brulee its like the perfect combination of crunch and creaminess. I need to go back to San Fran immediately to try this!

  7. WHAT!? I need to find that cart the next time I’m in SF! Nutella and custard? WOW. Just wow. One of my favorite restaurant desserts is bread pudding. It’s hot and sticky and gooey. And, since you mentioned it, one of my pet peeves is refrigerated cupcakes. Sticking them in the fridge is like the kiss of death!
