What to Wear Wednesday: Day to Night

Hi lovelies! I hope that you are all having a great week so far. Here in San Francisco we’re having our typical summer, or as Mark Twain put it “the coldest winter I’ve ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.” Rather than the below outfit that I was wearing a few weeks ago, I’ve been in tights and boots… in July. There is something so very wrong with that! Hopefully you are enjoying some warmer weather in your neck of the woods.

As a busy twenty-something in San Francisco, I feel like there is always something to do after work. Happy hours, fun events in the city, dates, get togethers with girlfriends. A lot of times these happen right after I get off work, so I like to have an outfit that transitions from day to night, where I can feel as confident walking into the office as I am into a trendy restaurant. This little black dress fit the bill the other day and allowed me to seamlessly move from both environments.

Dress: BCBG Generation, Belt: Nordstrom (Old), Bangles: A few from everywhere (Old), Shoes: G by Guess

I work in a creative environment so I actually was able to wear this to work, but for those of you who might work in more conservative offices, this outfit will still work too. For the office, switch the belt to a black skinny belt and pair it with black heels or flats to keep it a little more demure. Then when it’s time to go out you can slip on some flashier accessories or add a pop of color, apply an extra coat of mascara and a bold lipstick or gloss and you are good to go!

Questions:

-What do your days look like after work/school?

-What’s your favorite day to night outfit?

  1. love those shoes!

Ugh I hate trying to find transition outfits. So difficult! The worst is when you aren’t aware that you’ll be going out after work and then suddenly you’re at a bar until 11 at night in your cardigan, pearls, and flats (me last Thursday). So annoying!

  3. Emily! Your shoes are adorable!! My last job was super casual, so I got into a rut of jeans and long sweaters (AC way too high). Nicole is the stylish one in the family and I wish I could pick items from HER closet everyday for my more businessy dress code job… they’d be good transition pieces :)

  4. Love this outfit. We need to live in the same city so we can share work clothes!! Haha.

  5. You are adorable. I wish I had more time to work a day-to-night look — too much actual work getting in the way! ;) I usually barely have enough time to eat dinner before going to bed. Phew! But I do love a good LBD; you can never go wrong with that. Xo
